Our Abalone Shells are harvested in the Philippines under regulated waters by licensed fisherman who adhere to the strictest sustainably regulations to ensure no over harvesting is done to protect wildlife who also rely on this food source. For all shells harvested the abalone interior animal is used in the local food industry so nothing is wasted, and the shell is carefully cleaned, polished and wrapped with extreme care for import into the USA. The Paua Abalone is an ancient traditional shell used in Native American sage smudging rituals as an all natural smudging bowl for burning sage and spreading away negative energy from the home and person.
